The three fires that devastated Spokane beginning August 1 — the Old Trails, Fairview, and Autumn Lane fires — have burned a combined 10,332 acres and damaged or destroyed 921 structures, according to KOMO and KHQ. Containment is near-complete. The cause of the Autumn Lane and Fairview fires remains under investigation; Aaron Farinacci has already been charged with arson specifically for the Old Trails Fire. The confirmed structure count — 921 — is higher than the ~600 estimate published in earlier ONYX coverage, which was the initial estimate before damage assessment teams completed their review.

THE UPDATED NUMBERS
| Total acreage burned 10,332 Old Trails + Fairview + Autumn Lane combined | Structures damaged or destroyed 921 finalized damage assessment count |
| Initial ONYX estimate (Aug 2-5) ~600 preliminary; now updated to confirmed 921 | Arson charged 1 Aaron Farinacci — Old Trails Fire only |
THE CAUSE INVESTIGATIONS
The Old Trails Fire has a charged defendant: Aaron Farinacci, 37, Texas, faces federal arson charges for “knowingly and maliciously” starting that fire. The causes of the Fairview and Autumn Lane fires remain under investigation. Investigators will examine whether all three fires were independently started — whether Farinacci set additional fires, whether other actors were involved, or whether two of the three fires had natural or accidental causes.
For the 921 families whose structures were damaged or destroyed: the cause investigations matter for insurance and civil liability purposes. If additional fires are also found to be arson, additional criminal charges follow. If those fires are accidental, insurance claims proceed through different processes.
THE RECOVERY REALITY
Near-containment means the fire risk is resolved. The recovery is not. 921 structures across three fire areas represent hundreds of families making decisions about whether to rebuild, where to live in the interim, how to navigate insurance claims, and whether the eastern Washington fire insurance market will allow affordable rebuilding. The federal disaster declaration process continues; Trump administration response timing has not been confirmed.
| CONFIDENCE: HIGH | 10,332 acres and 921 structures are from KOMO and KHQ confirmed reporting with damage assessment teams completing review. Farinacci charge is from prior documented ONYX coverage. Causes of Fairview and Autumn Lane under investigation is from confirmed reporting. |
