The Hurricane Season Peak Window Has Six Days Left. Here’s the FEMA Picture on September 11.

ONYX flagged September 10 as the statistical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season. The peak window extends approximately September 8-17 — today is within the highest-risk window for Atlantic hurricane formation. Tropical Storm Dolly remains active in the Atlantic. Hurricane Lowell grazed Maui yesterday. FEMA is simultaneously managing six active disaster responses.

THE PEAK WINDOW STATUS

The Atlantic hurricane season’s statistical peak window runs September 8-17. Today, September 11, is three days into that window. Six days remain in the highest-risk period for major storm formation. The specific FEMA concern: the DRF is inadequate relative to the current active disaster load; if a major hurricane makes US landfall during the remaining six days of the peak window, the federal response capacity would be tested against an already-depleted resource.

DOLLY’S STATUS

Tropical Storm Dolly remains in the Atlantic. Its current track and intensity from NHC September 11 reporting will determine whether it poses a threat to the US coastline. Dolly has been in the Atlantic since August 29 — thirteen days — and has moved through the peak development period without intensifying to hurricane strength as of this reporting.

The peak window has six days left. Dolly is still in the Atlantic. FEMA is managing six simultaneous disasters. The Disaster Relief Fund was depleted before September. The next six days are the specific risk period.
